H. L. Lindquist, the publisher of Stamps magazine, was an active publisher of philatelic literature. One of his ambitious projects was to publish what was intended to be a quarterly journal of worthwhile philatelic articles. The first volume was issued in late 1939. An annual subscription was $5 for four issues. Lindquist hoped to have 2,000 subscribers but it is doubtful if he ever achieved that level.
The volumes were well-produced for the time. The books are 7 1/4" x 10 3/16". Hard bindings varied over the period with the earlier volumes being bound in paper over cards. These have not as durable as the later cloth bindings. In all, 20 volumes were produced. World War II and publishing vagaries caused an early departure from the plan for quarterly publications. The projected 20 volumes were not completed until 1948. After the first 4 volumes, subsequent volumes were given the names of colors in which they were bound. Time has added to many of the articles but many were the first article on the subject and contributed to further work by other students. In general, the articles remain interesting even now. A complete set is a fine addition to a philatelic library.
The following is a compilation of the indexes of the twenty volumes in the order in which they were published. The author's names are italicized. The user may use the [ctrl][f] feature of most browsers to search the list for items of interest.
A special note of thanks is due Michael Lau whose eBay ads offering Stamp Specialist volumes provided nearly all the text from which this list is made.
