December 13, 1929
This commercial cover received the full airmail treatment
with an etiquette and a handstamp.
It was sent from Guanajuato which is
about 275 km northwest of Mexico City near León.
The addressee is the Manager, Want Ad. Dept., Times Union, Jacksonville,
Florida.
What do you suppose it was about? Finding workers? Finding
a new job?
The stamps are the 30c
dark green Cuauhtémoc Monument of 1923 (Scott 641)
and probably the 25c brown carmine and gray brown eagle and two volcanoes*
airmail of 1928 (Scott C3).
*Thanks to Jim Whitford-Stark for identifying the volcanoes
as Popocatepetl
and Iztaccihuatl.
From a related geologist I have learned, quite incidentally, that the
Guanajuato Mining District is a oligocene volcanic center
with one of the world's great silver and gold concentrations.
