Today in Postal History
Gold Coast to Germany
December 7, 1883
This UPU postal card originated in Accra, Gold
Coast
(now Ghana), and was destined for Berlin.
It has a single circle Accra postmark as well as a 554 numeral cancel.*
The card received a transit mark in London on
January
2, 1884.
I believe that the circle postmark at the lower
left
front was a January 4 receiving mark from Berlin.
The only parts of the message side I can read and
translate are
the dateline of "Accra 5 December 1883" and the "My Dear Friend,"
salutation.
*Thanks to David Benson for catching my misread
of the Accra numeral.
