Today in Postal History
Thurn and Taxis to Prague
November 11, 1864
This neat little cover was sent from Frankfurt am Main in the Southern District.
The stamp is the 9 kreuzer bister imperf of 1862
(Scott 55).
The target cancel with 220 in its center was the
obliterator numeral (Stempelnummer) assigned to
Frankfurt.
It is a large number (grosse Ziffern) three ring cancel.
I cannot identify the type.
The N. M. under the date is probably the abbreviation for
Nachmittag (afternoon).*
The destination was Prague.
There are no receiving marks on the front.
*Thanks to Phil for the supplementary information
above.
