Today in Postal History
Burma to United States
November 1, 1940
Postmarked Toungoo, Burma. Corner card indicates cover
was from
A. Klein (Alice
Klein, a Baptist missionary) at Bunker School.
It was addressed to New York City
to the Women's
American Baptist Foreign Mission Society.
The cover is franked with three different stamps from the
1938 issue.
From left to right, 6 pies ultramarine, 1 anna brown violet,
and 2 anna carmine (Scott 20, 22, and 24 respectively).
These stamps were later surcharged for use as Japanese
occupation stamps.
The wartime cover was censored in Rangoon.
Thanks, David and Bob! I need all the help I can get!
