Today in Postal History
China to United States
October 10, 1936
This well-postmarked cover from Canton has additional
markings
which I cannot translate. Anyone care to give it a try?
It was addressed to San Bernardino, California.
(I remember a wonderful Chinese restaurant there. . . but I digress.)
The cover is franked with two stamps from the 1936 issue
commemorating the 40th Anniversary of the Chinese Post Office.
Included are the 5c green Maritime Scene and the 2c orange
Methods of Mail Transportation (Scott 336 and 335).
The low combined rate suggests that it might have been a circular of
some sort.
