Today in Postal History
This cover (folded letter?) had a very short journey.
It went into the mail in Riobamba
in the mountains of Ecuador about 140 km northeast of Guayaquil.
(Caution: the link is a slow loader with lots of pictures.)
Riobamba is near the volcano Chimborazo.
The cover was bound for Guaranda
which
was only 50 km west.
The cover has two CDS and the stamps are also cancelled with
three squares of dots.
The cover is franked with a strip of three 1865 1r. green
imperfs (Scott 5).
This has to be a very early use of this stamp.
