Today in Postal History
This cover was sent from the French Embassy in Bern,
Switzerland.*
There are six neat strikes of a Bern bridge CDS
cancelling the five 5c. stamps used to frank the cover.
The stamps are 5c. maroon numerals from the 1882 issue
(Scott 71).
The destination was Dreux in Eure-et-Loir, France.
Dreux is about 75
km west of Paris.
The cover was backstamped there on its arrival July 8.
*Thanks to Bjorn Munch for correcting my guesses concerning
the Ambassador.
