Today in Postal History
This cover was posted at Port Said where it received two
Port
Said Traffic postmarks.
I believe this is the postmark of mail dropped off from steamships.
The addressee also suggests that this may have been mail from
a crew member of a steamship, perhaps Karl Zelle writing home to his
wife.
Its destination was Hamburg, the home port of much of the
German merchant fleet.
The stamp is 20 milliemes ultramarine King Faud issued in
1934 (Scott 141).
