Today in Postal History
Mauritius to France
March 21, 1882
This folded letter was postmarked in Mauritius,
in the
Indian Ocean.
The routing noted was 'Via Aden & Marseille' to its destination in
Bordeaux.
It received a small Mauritius CDS and a B53 numeral obliterator.
There appear to be two transit marks on the reverse - one
for Marseille and one for Bordeaux but they are not clear.
There is also an octagonal receiving mark of some sort indicating an
arrival on May 21st.
The stamp is the 17c rose of 1880 (SG 96).
SG suggests x4 for this stamp on cover.
There is an oval stamp cachet for the sender in Port Louis.
