Today in Postal History
Bahamas to United States
March 13, 1930
This straightforward commercial cover was sent
from Nassau, the capital
of the Bahamas.
Nassau is on New
Providence, an island which is about 21 miles long.
The cover is franked with a 1921 1d carmine rose
George V (Scott 72).
The use of only a 1d stamp suggests that this
cover was only printed matter.
The lack of a time in the machine cancel dial is also consistent with
printed matter usage.
The clear slogan killer is the redeeming feature
of this otherwise ordinary cover.
COME TO
NASSAU BAHAMAS
IDEAL TOURIST RESORT
This certainly fits as well now as then.
The sender is The New Colonial which was probably
a resort hotel.
