Today in Postal History
Algeria to Canada
February 13, 1933
This cover received three CDS from Geryville,
Oran,
on its way to Saint François D'assise, Québec, Canada.
Saint François D'assise is about
700 km north of Montreal in central Québec.
It's one of those places about which one can say, "You can't get there
from here!"
The cover is franked with three 50c dark red
definitives from 1930.
What intrigues me most about this cover is the
elegant
hand in which the cover is addressed and the addressee.
The name "Mademoiselle Simone" receiving mail from Algeria
conjures up exotic visions of high living and forbidden pleasures.
However, discovering the remoteness of the destination,
makes one wonder about just how exotic it could be.
