Tahiti to New Zealand
February 7, 1903
This neat cover received two strikes of a modest double circle date
stamp in Papeete, Tahiti.
Its destination was Wellington, New Zealand.
Note the recipient's interesting occupation.
He must have had quite a reputation.
The stamp is 25c black and rose 1892 Navigation and Commerce issued for French Polynesia (Scott 11).
The foreign rate for French colonies was 25c per
each 15g from 1878 to October 1, 1907.
Although the rate remained 25c 'til 1922, the weight and
surcharges for added weights varied.*
*Thanks to Paul for the added rate information.
