This is a registered first day cover for
the
1954 Elizabeth II pictorials which featured explorers ships.
The first 10 stamps (of 15) through the 1/- have been applied (SG G26
to G35).
The four CDS postmarks indicate South
Georgia, a Falkland Islands Dependency.
The community on South Georgia is Grytviken - a whaling town
which was a staging point for the exploration of the Antarctic.
The cover is addressed to a Nassau Street dealer in New York City.
There are 17 stations in the Falkland Islands
Dependencies.
Can you imagine how difficult it would be to assemble
a complete set of first day covers postmarked in each station?
