This airmail cover made use of the Royal
Netherlands East Indies Airways
(KNILM) which had established service to Batavia in 1938.
The circled H and 8 are Singapore censor marks.
The circled DEV | 1 was applied by currency control in Java.
Two SAIGON CENTRAL CDS were applied.
The cover is franked with a 37c 1938 airmail stamp (Scott C10)
and a 3c dark green 1934 regular issue (Scott 153A).
The 40c rate was made up of the 25c foreign rate from
December 1, 1939 to early 1942 plus a 15c airmail rate to Java.*
*Thanks again to Paul Barsdell for the rate information.
