This commercial cover made the
trans-atlantic voyage on the Kaiser
W[ilhelm] II on its way to Zurich.
The Kaiser Wilhelm II was built for
the Norddeutscher Lloyd in 1902.
She was 19,361 gross ton ship carrying nearly 1,900 passengers.
The cover was franked with a single 15¢ olive green of the 1902-03
series (Scott 309).
The choice of stamp would indicate that this was a triple-UPU-rate
letter.
The wrinkling pattern suggests a thick enclosure which would confirm
the triple rate.
The cover was postmarked in New York with a two part dial and oval bars
killer handstamp.
